Amazingly, the Converse Company was founded as far back as 1908 and came to be a global success after popular basketball star, Chuck Taylor, wore them on the court. Fast forward to this year, and we’re in an era when most people own at least one pair of sneakers or sport’s shoes, for comfortable, everyday wear. And Converse is still at the top of its game as one of the top sneaker brands in the world. The company has managed to stay so successful by offering a wide variety of styles and colors, to ensure that there’s plenty of choice to wear Converse with all of your fashion outfits. And if you’re not sure which Converse sneakers are right for you and what to wear with your trendy, comfy Converse shoes, this article covers everything you need to know about how to wear high-top Converse footwear!
Street-styles for Converse high-tops
Working out how to wear high-top Converse trainers is not always easy, as there’s such a wide range of designs, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. And as the designs are coming to the big companies from the looks seen on the street, we’re going to start with a few outfits spotted out on the streets.
Trendy fashion colors for this winter/spring
The winter colors are strongly pigmented gem shades this winter, which includes rich, dark purple, lots of brown shades, deep burgundy red, lovely forest-green, midnight-blue and deep pink. So you can wear sneakers in bright colors to match your garments or accessories, or to complement them. Converse is also offering more experimental multi-color high-tops to meet the growing demand for Boho, quirky, funky and futuristic fashion ensembles.
White Converse high-top trend
White trainers are a huge trend this year, so with blue denim you can choose white high-tops with red sole stripes and know that they’ll look great with all blue denim garments. Add a red accessory, like a belt, scarf or bag to match the sole stripes and pull the whole look together.
High-top Converse & cropped jeans
Jeans look great with women’s Converse footwear in low and high-top designs. But don’t wear black high-tops with navy-blue jeans, as they just tend to create a jarring color clash. Generally speaking, black is the best color of Converse to match with black or gray bottoms. If you aren’t sure what color to wear, select from gray, pink or white.
However, you should always try to have some of your lower leg showing above your high-tops, so that the shoes are shown off well. Therefore, you need to wear jeans and pants that stop above the ankle to keep the focus on your Converse high-top shoes.
If you’re into minimalism, you’ll be pleased to hear that sneakers are focusing on classic styles this year, so the white Converse trend is a practical one. It allows for a clean look you can wear all-year round, with a layered look in cold weather and dresses in the summer season.
Converse high-tops & slip dresses
Wearing Converse high-tops with dresses is a simple and trendy look that anyone can put together. These shoes can mix or match with almost any dress style or color and here are a few examples to get you started. A black maxi-dress looks cool harmonized with black high-tops. Add a denim jacket for extra edge and a trendy tan bag to complete the look. It’s feminine and comfortable; with a high-fashion look you’ll enjoy wearing.
Converse high-tops & bright printed dresses
Ethnic printed dresses look fabulous with white high tops, especially if you can match the colors. Converse high tops with red uppers and white sides, look super with a bright red, floral dress and a red handbag!
Grunge outfits with shorts
Converse high-tops always look great with short denim shorts, when you want an edgy, casual look without heels. Wear your shorts with an untidy fringe at the hemline and a distressed vibe. Worn with a long-sleeved chambray, denim shirt and maybe a gray or taupe, wool sweater – in case the temperatures drop at an evening beach party – you’ll have a ‘cool’ grunge-look. Ballet pumps and sandals just don’t give the same street-fashion look if you’re into grunge.
Converse high-tops & maxi-skirts
White high-top Converse sneakers look super with a flowing long skirt and a cropped top, under a cropped denim jacket. You can choose any fashionable color for your skirt and know that it will look good with your trendy, white high-tops. It’s a lovely fresh spring/summer style for style and comfort. And you can wear classic, white Converse sneakers with jeans and the short, plaid, tennis skirts in the stores right now for another spring/summer high-fashion outfit.
Pink Converse high-tops & a flowy frilled skirt
Going for a day-out with friends, a lunch date or anytime you want to look cute, try a long, flimsy pink skirt with frill decorations and pink high-tops. This look can be worn with a new waist-length pastel cardigan, or a lightweight hoodie or sweatshirt. And it looks really attractive for summer wear, especially with a beige chain-strapped rectangular bag.
Converse high-tops, skater skirts & biker jackets
And the other favorite for young women is Converse high-tops with an above the knee A-line skater skirt in plain black, which can be jazzed up in the summer with the cute pastel colors. 90’s fashion is back in and that includes spaghetti strap basic vest tee-shirts, in gray, neutral beige and khaki colors and of course, the pastel colors. In particular, we’ll be wearing waist-length cardigans in adorable colors with dainty, feminine details like a large, lace collar and pearl or jewel buttons.
So your basic black Converse high-tops will match outfits that can be as bright on top as you wish for an easy summer style. And as the shops are packed with black faux-leather jackets at really low prices, why not add one to wear with your black sneakers for a trendy vibe. If you like wearing a skirt with your trainers, but it’s still cool weather where you live, add some thick, black tights and wear with your biker jacket and high-tops.
Converse black high-tops with stretchy pencil skirts
Show-off your shape in a bodycon pencil skirt with a carefully chosen casual outfit that gets the balance just perfect. This year’s long cardigans are thick enough to be known as cardi-coats and feature thick-textured knits and bright colors with abstract patterns.
They look excellent in a length that’s longer than the stretchy pencil skirt, and with a top that matches the main color in the cardigan. This is a handy, balanced springtime outfit made with soft, warm fabrics that are as comfortable as your black high-tops. Add a black, rectangular handbag with stud detail, or a brighter color to complement your colorful cardi-coat.
Student’s black high-top styles & summer colors
Students love to wear high-top Converse sneakers with leggings, as it’s economical, figure-flattering, doesn’t need any ironing and leaves you free to focus on getting the most out of your time at college. Now that may vary between social and study-time, but this versatile look is appropriate for any occasion. Yes, it’s a look that’s been around for years now, but it’s getting a refreshing make-over for this summer!
Stick with black leggings and avoid prints, then you’ll be free to wear the summer colors with your black high-tops creating an appealing contrast. The summer colors are lavender, baby-blue, pale pink, soft, moss green and baby-chicken yellow. And in addition, there’s a big trend for khaki, sand, tan, beige, cream and white, too. So it’s pretty pastels and chic neutrals, which always look great with black leggings!
Converse high-tops & trousers
It may be easier to wear low-top Converse sneakers with smart pants for the office, than edgier high tops. But not all workplaces impose a formal workwear style on its employees. So wearing your trainers in a super-clean condition and keeping the colors well-coordinated often means you can be casually chic in white or black, or sneak in some of the pastel colored shoes with cute summer outfits.
Converse high-tops & dungarees
Denim dungarees look great with high- and low- top Converse styles, but don’t wear dark blue denim with black canvas high-tops, they just don’t look right together. However, medium and light wash denim dungarees look super with white or black high-tops. Try this look with a striped Breton sailor top underneath to add more personality and wear a tan handbag because it adds color and is going to be madly popular this year!
Neutral Converse high-tops & khaki pants
And one of my particular favorite styles and colors is the neutral tones, pro leather unisex high-top shoe. This color looks great with the oversized gray and beige plaid blazer jackets and any soft light green or lavender sweaters in springtime. It will also match with any of the latest neutral summer colors, like khaki, sand and beige jeans and cargo pants.
And it will look great with summer pastel garments tops and bottoms, including skirts, and slip dresses. So for warm weather wear, you can have a neutral high-top that really does look good with all of this year’s trendiest fashion colors!
Converse high-tops & graphic tees
And for a true match made in heaven, wear your Converse high-tops and blue, brown, black or khaki jeans/pants with this year’s fabulous graphic t-shirts! They’re available to suit every fashion tribe, from vintage 1928 prints of the original Mickey Mouse drawings, through retro- and current rock bands, to Goth, Punk, Eco, Art & Scene images. And there’s nothing trendier than this outfit to keep you comfortable, casual and looking great this year!
